The event is free and there will be a sketchbook and pencil provided (or you can bring your own materials). We’ll be doing a few drawing exercises to warm up before settling in to focus on an item or area in the museum to draw in more detail. If there’s time, and the weather is conducive we might also take a stroll in the grounds.
The current exhibition at Oriel Myrddin is Richard Slee: Work and Play. Slee is one of Britain’s leading ceramic artists and the pieces in Work and Play focus particularly on his interest in DIY, tools and domestic objects. The use of ceramics and fragile materials in the making of the works renders the objects totally non-functional. In many ways a museum does the same thing – the objects in its care have lost their prior use and meaning, gaining a different function in their role as cultural symbols and signifiers.
Oriel Myrddin is open until 5pm and so there will be time to pop into town and visit the exhibition after the sketchbook walk if you haven’t already seen the show.
Everyone is welcome to join the sketchbook walk – children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. No need to book – just come to the museum for 11am.
Absent but not Forgotten are off to Cardiff tonight for BYOB III in The Abacus with BIT Studios. Experimenting with some new footage…come and say hello!
